Introduction: A Daughter Writes on the Matter of Caring Medical Transport
When dealing with an elderly parent, one is heavy-hearted over every choice that needs to be made. Whether it pertains to medication schedules, appointments with a doctor, and first and foremost, transportation, reliability and respect are not negotiable. My mother is 81 years old and is less mobile; her health regimen is complex, involves regular visits to checkups, physical therapy, and dialysis. We did not really need a ride, but we needed a team to entrust.
Infina Health did not appear out of the blue. They were noticeable. They were part of our family, a team of people who would take care of my mother using the same approach I would. Next up we get to visit Infina Health which is an NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transport) service that has changed my perception of medical transportation.
Chapter 1: The First Ride Where We Got Our Confidence
Infina Health is the first service we turned to six months ago when my mother was released after a minor stroke. Her recovery was easy but notably she was affected in her strength and coordination. It was no longer safe to walk without assistance anymore and the usual ride-sharing services did not support her situation and walker.
Infina Health struck me as soon as I got the first call. The representative I had interviewed probed further concerning what her condition was like, her transportation needs and preferences. They did not consider us as the other entry in a system- they considered us as people.
It is also true that on the day when I went on a ride, the driver came ten minutes early. He wore a clean uniform, smiled at my mother and told her everything about the process of boarding. He put her walker on a hydraulic lift, buckled her in, and he even took care of making sure that the seatbelt did not aggravate her shoulder, which had just gone through physical therapy.
The first experience was enough to convince us: Infina Health was the correct choice.
Chapter 2:
A Few Appointments of the Everyday Kind
This is since that day my mother attends several appointments every week such as: dialysis, physical therapy, neurology, and a dental appointment here and there. Infina health has been very accurate with each ride.
However, the punctuality is not the only thing, which is memorable, it is the people. She is a known figure to most drivers who are regular. They recall that she prefers to have the window cracked a bit to get fresh air. They also take time when making turns and they never hurry her up when she spends more time getting out of the car.
The most shocking thing was the fact that they are so emotionally sensitive. There are more difficult days, when my mom is tired or low, and their small talk does not do it, they simply help her in silence and give her comfort. On good days, they tickle her and tell stories and cheer her.
This is the best of medical transportation, non-emergency, but those who were being transported were thoughtful, responsive, and patient-cantered.
Chapter 3:
Being on the time to being on the inside: The Strength of consistency
Healthline changes are confidence builders in the healthcare field. Infina Health has not been late even in a single ride; a fact that has been realized in more than 80 rides. Such a high degree of punctuality is not only a logistical achievement, but also mindfulness of my mother and her time and her health.
The thing is we always enjoy their professionalism in life. We do not fear about whether she can get to dialysis or not miss a vital check-up. Rather we are sure that Infina Health will be waiting our door, smiling and at the right time.
This has even been able to stabilize her mood and minimize anxiety. Prior to Infina, it was all scrambling to get an appointment. My mother has been empowered now because she has an assurance that there will always be a dependable person around.
Chapter 4:
Coping an Emergency with Compassion
I can never forget one incident. One day in the afternoon, soon after a session of physical therapy, my mom started to feel dizzy and sick. The driver just looked at her and saw her pale skin and a rather shaky gait, when we were leaving the clinic. He in no sense panicked, but he promptly, without any indecision assisted her to sit down safely in the car and reported to me in person completely in detail.
He even volunteered to reroute to the emergency room in the event it was necessary and remained parked in a shade with water at hand as I was communicating with her doctor. Luckily, that was simply the side effect of the new medication, but due to the training of the driver, his reaction was calm and under control.
That was the day I discovered: the group of Infina Health is not trained in transportation, it is trained in care.
Chapter 5
Little Things that Matter Most
We call Infina Health a lifesaver not because of all the equipment and professional staff, but because of the little extras they give you so you feel like a special case.
They make light knocks, greet my mother in a good way and speak well. When they want to have a conversation with her when she is tired, they speak in a lower ton. They interact with her when she is feeling better and enquire about the grandchildren.
The vehicles themselves are also considerate. They are spotless, climate-controlled and furnished with cushiony seat pads and cushioned support rails. These characteristics may not be unusual, but when you have to transport a frail geriatric lady, they are game-changing.
They have thoroughly studied her special needs; including the way she cannot cope up with sudden body movement and her level of sensitivity to loud noise. Everything is tailored. Each part of it is done carefully.
Chapter 6:
The Peace of Mind of the Caregiver
Infina Health has done me an invaluable favor and made available to me something I did not have as her daughter and caretaker: peace of mind.
Previously, I had to scramble every time I had an appointment: work, scheduling, traffic, and logistics. I am sure that at Infina Health she will be in their care and new hands, which are kind. I get text notifications on pickup and drop off, and in case of delay because of weather or traffic (which hardly happens though), they send notifications.
I am now able to concentrate on my own job without having to worry whether the employee is being treated with kindness and respect.
Chapter 7:
Cheap, Available and Priceless
They may expect that a unique or high-touch service such as the non-emergency medical transport (NEMT) will be very expensive. However, the best surprise we had of using Infina Health was the fact that their services are neither steep nor unaffordable as one imagines. With an ever-growing world of complex healthcare logistics looming over you, or even just making healthcare logistics seem too unattainable, Infina Health has made quality and consistent medical transport a reality, within the most reachable precincts of even a day-to-day family, such as ours.
They are networked with numerous insurance providers which made our out-of-pocket expenditure minimal. In cases like the physical therapy and cardiology appointments of my mother (which is repeated), the case has been taken care of on their part with no legwork on our part as far as insurance claims go. Their support team (the ones we could call when we had any questions about coverage or co-pays) was a phone-call away and was very patient, clear, and always supportive.
Although some of these trips were not the subject of an insurance policy, Infina provided an opportunity to have flexible, clear payments. No surprise fees, no confusing bills, but honest prices and a service level beyond its worth.
However, it is not just the affordability that you receive at the end of the day but rather the peace of mind that you can feel as well. You are also paying to be on time, kind and most importantly making sure your loved one feels comfortable and dignified. That will cost us nothing.
Conclusion
When you are taking care of an older parent, or yourself, you understand how crucial it is to look after a transportation provider that is more than a driver. What you require is a group of people who identify a human in the passenger.
My mother has never been anything less than human and a task/time slot to Infina Health. They have viewed her as a human being, with narratives, personalities, hardships, and hearts. At all times they have treated her with kindness, patience and unswerving respect.
The world seems to be a very fast, where service is secondary; however, Infina Health is a lovely reminder that dignity and empathy has space in medical world too.
They did not only take my mother to her appointments. They helped her to feel noticed, secure, and appreciated every step of the journey.
